Area Description :

Ceredigion lies astride and west of the cambrian mountains, extending from the dovey estuary in the north to the teifi estuary in the south. Although sparsely populated (70,000+) it has two university towns, lampeter and aberystwyth and the national library of wales. The county is mainly agricultural with villages and hamlets tucked into tight wooded valleys connected by a network of well-maintained lanes, often with steep banks topped by beech hedges and trees. You will not have to battle traffic even in high summer. There is a diversity of scenery with secluded beaches and coves, cliff paths, lanes, rivers and secretive streams, moorland and mountain, an abundance of historic sites and castles, mills, and studios of artists in wood, glass, wax, canvas and clay. The ceredigion heritage coast has porpoise, bottlenose dolphin, and atlantic seal. On a clear day the mountains of snowdonia, the llyn peninsula and bardsey island and the preseli hills of pembrokeshire are visible. The everyday language is welsh. The local people are most welcoming towards visitors, and switch to english readily.
